R. 10472 To ensure that the Office of Investigations within the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service is adequately staffed to improve accountability and oversight, and for other purposes. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 16, 2026 Mr. Vindman introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To ensure that the Office of Investigations within the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service is adequately staffed to improve accountability and oversight, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Mail Integrity and Inspector General Act''. SEC. 2. STAFFING OF OFFICE OF INVESTIGATIONS WITHIN USPS OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL. (a) In General.--During each fiscal year beginning with fiscal year 2027, the Office of Investigations within the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service shall maintain staffing levels sufficient to meet current and projected investigative workloads, including, if necessary, increasing the number of special agents in classification series 1811. (b) Hiring Authorities.--The Inspector General of the Postal Service may use the authorities under sections 5753 and 5754 of title 5, United States Code, for the purposes of improving recruitment and retention within the Office of Investigations. (c) Report.--Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act and annually thereafter, the Inspector General of the Postal Service shall conduct a workforce assessment of the Office of Investigations to examine investigative staffing needs, vacancy rates, caseloads, and hiring progress, and submit a report on such assessment to Congress. (d) Agreements With State and Local Governments.--The Office of Investigations within the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service may enter into cooperative agreements with State or local governments to provide assistance to State or local government law enforcement agencies for the purposes of conducting investigations related to the work of such Office. <all>
