R. 10588 To change certain household income eligibility requirements for low- income home energy assistance in fiscal year 2027, and for other purposes. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 24, 2026 Mr. Pappas introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Education and Workforce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To change certain household income eligibility requirements for low- income home energy assistance in fiscal year 2027, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Lowering Inflated Heating, Energy, and Air Conditioning Prices Act'' or the ``LIHEAP Act''. SEC. 2. LIHEAP HOUSEHOLD INCOME ELIGIBILITY. (a) In General.--Notwithstanding section 2605(b)(2)(B)(ii) of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Act of 1981 (42 U.S.C. 8624(b)(2)(B)(ii)), for fiscal year 2027 a State may use any grant made under section 2602 of such Act (42 U.S.C. 8621) to make payments under section 2605(b)(2) of such Act (42 U.S.C. 8624(b)(2)) to households with incomes which do not exceed 75 percent of the State median income. (b) Definitions.--In this section, the terms ``State'', ``State median income'', and ``household'' have the meanings given such terms in section 2603 of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Act of 1981 (42 U.S.C. 8622). <all>
