RES. 1312 Honoring the victims of the Islamic Center of San Diego shooting in San Diego, California, on May 18, 2026. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES May 21, 2026 Ms. Jacobs (for herself, Mr. Carson, Mr. Levin, Ms. Omar, Mr. Peters, Ms. Simon, Ms. Tlaib, and Mr. Vargas) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform _______________________________________________________________________ RESOLUTION Honoring the victims of the Islamic Center of San Diego shooting in San Diego, California, on May 18, 2026. Whereas, on May 18, 2026, a mass shooting took place at the Islamic Center of San Diego, a sanctuary for peace, comfort, and worship; Whereas children attended the Islamic Center of San Diego to learn and were instead forced to flee for their lives, traumatized by gunmen acting out of violence and hatred; Whereas Amin Abdullah, the Islamic Center of San Diego's security guard, confronted the gunmen and gave his life to save others; Whereas Abul Izz was the heart and soul of the mosque for nearly 40 years and treated every child at the mosque as his own; Whereas Nader Awad was devoted to the Clairemont community and gave his life shielding others from the gunmen; Whereas this shooting took place on a holy day in the final and sacred month of the Islamic year, days before the major Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha; Whereas Congress has the power and responsibility to condemn acts of violence against Muslims; and Whereas the refusal to enact substantial legislation has caused the rise of Islamophobic, anti-Muslim sentiment, and hatred of all kinds: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) recognizes, remembers, and honors the memory of the victims murdered in the Islamic Center of San Diego shooting in San Diego, California, including Amin Abdullah, Mansour ``Abul Izz'' Kazhia, and Nader Awad; (2) offers heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies for the families, loved ones, and friends of such victims; (3) expresses the continual support to those affected and marked by this act of domestic terrorism; (4) recognizes and honors the resilience of the Muslim community; (5) condemns Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate; and (6) stands together with all people of the United States, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or political affiliation, in the face of terror and hate. <all>
