Plain-English Summary

The proposal would adjust the income thresholds used to determine how much of a person's Social Security benefits are taxed, based on inflation each year. Currently, these thresholds have remained fixed since 1984, meaning more retirees pay taxes on their benefits as their incomes rise over time. This change would help prevent seniors from facing higher tax bills on their Social Security income simply due to inflation.
