[Congressional Bills 119th Congress] [From the U.S. Government Publishing Office] [S. 5679 Introduced in Senate (IS)] <DOC> 119th CONGRESS 2d Session S. 5679 To prohibit the naming or renaming of a Naval vessel for an individual serving as the President or Vice President. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES September 30, 2026 Mr. Booker introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Armed Services _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To prohibit the naming or renaming of a Naval vessel for an individual serving as the President or Vice President. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``No Officeholder Self-Endorsement of Legacy for Navy Vessels Act'' or the ``NO SELF Act''. SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON NAMING OR RENAMING A NAVAL VESSEL FOR A SITTING PRESIDENT OR VICE PRESIDENT. (a) In General.--The Secretary of the Navy may not name or rename a vessel of the Navy for an individual who, at the time of such naming or renaming, is serving as President or Vice President of the United States. (b) Permissible Naming or Renaming.--Nothing in this section shall prohibit the naming or renaming of a vessel for a former President or former Vice President after such individual leaves office. <all>
